Beckett's Story:

Beckett was born on 10/12/14 at 7:41 am, weighting in at 6 lbs 14 oz and 19 inches long with a full head of hair.  We were blessed with a beautiful healthy baby.  In a couple weeks home I noticed signs of silent reflux symptoms which his pediatrician agreed with and started him on medication.  In his first month he gained weight and looked like the picture of health.  At two months he had his first vaccinations and did so well we visited Santa Claus afterwards.  A day or two after his shots I noticed he just was not acting like himself.

Our nightmare began in the early morning hours of December 22.  After changing his diaper I noticed blood in his urine.  I called his doctor on call and was told to take him to our local ER.  Physician  on call thought it might be a UTI but by the grace of God decided to take an X-ray.  They noticed that his heart might be enlarged and decided to send him to Arnold Palmer Children hospital in Orlando.  On the way in the ambulance Beckett went into respiratory distress.  Paramedics were able to start oxygen right away.  If we decided not to take him to the ER this would be another story.

We were so lucky to have the best team at Arnold Palmer.  Beckett was whisked away and the next time I saw him he was in ICU, intubated and hooked up to many machines.  An echo cardiogram confirmed his heart was extremely enlarged.  They were able to stabilize him and then decided on the second day to airlift him to Shands Children Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.  Because of bad weather they were unable to fly and would transport him via ambulance. After hours of waiting and having issues with the portable vent we arrived at Shands at 3:00 AM.

Now it is Christmas Eve.  Shands has the most up to date Congenital Cardiac ICU.  Beckett has a team of doctors who work around the clock to keep his heart pumping and to understand why this happened.  His diagnosis is Cardiomyopathy origin unknown.  There is no cure for this condition he has but there is hope with a new heart.   As of yesterday Beckett is on the National Registry listed as 1A waiting for a new heart.  Today, as I start this blog, he is stable but very ill.  We ask for your prayers in hope he receives a new healthy heart. For now I stay next to his bedside all day and night. My parents flew out the minute they heard the horrific news and have been by my side. Joe comes and goes between work.  I will continue to update this blog to keep you all inform.

  32. Taylor,
I'm truly sorry to hear that. I will keep you and babe Beckett in my prayers. If you could find it soon enough to take him to the hospital, know that he has his purpose in this world. Stay calm and let God do his job.

  33. Taylor,
God is going to use all events that occur to show His glory. Please believe that when the medical answer is "no", God's answer is on the way. When Jesus died on the cross, He said that by His stripes we were healed. That He took our pain and iniquities. I'm believing God for supernatural healing in Beckett's life right now! I bind any strongholds the devil has placed over you, your family, and most of all Beckett! I declare that you will see victory over this, and that above all God will be glorified! The Bible also states that where two or three are gathered, there I will be also. He also said one can put 1,000 Angels in flight and two 10,000.

So today my prayer is this:
Let God have His way through this event, and let Him be exalted through the storm!

God makes one final promise to us with regard to our circumstances: He will never give you more than you can handle. There is something God wants to reveal to you through this.

My prayer for you, as a mother, is that you remain strong. That you stay focused on where your health comes from, and that God's Mighty Hand moves through your storm as you read this and meditate on the promises He has already made in His word.

We love you and we are expecting positive and rapid results of healing in Beckett's life. All this through Jesus' Holy Name we pray, Amen!

    - Eliseo and Jennifer Rodriguez
